Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What are the hours and locations of the Kenosha Public Library?

A. See our Locations and hours page

Q. How do I get a library card?

A.  All Kenosha City and County residents of any age are entitled to free library cards. Fill out this form and bring it with you to speed up the process. Identification is required at the time of registration. The Kenosha Public Library issues blue library cards (much like a credit card) that are considered lifetime cards. There is a $1.00 fee to replace lost, damaged or stolen cards. If the card is lost or stolen, please report it to the library as soon as possible, so we can prevent unauthorized use.

Q. How can I find out if The Library owns a particular book and where it is located?

A. Call any KPL location and we will check our Katalog which lists the complete holdings of all KPL and Community Library locations. We will let you know if it is checked out or on the shelf at a particular branch. We can set the book aside for you at the owning library or have it sent via delivery to a library of your choice. We can place a hold for you on a title that is checked out.

Please note - Educational toys, Reading Readiness Resources, and media kits are available only at the SouthwestLibrary and must be checked out and returned there.

Q. How many library items may I check out?

A.   There is a limit of 50 items per library card.  Items may be books, magazines, cds, videos (limit of 10), audiocassettes and other library materials.

Q. Can I renew library materials?

A.   You may renew any Kenosha Public Library items except those that have been reserved and the following: CD-ROMS, contest books (Battle of the Books and English Fest books), and holiday items during the holiday season.  To renew an item visit or telephone any Kenosha Public Library branch.
